Weak or tight knee? Challenge it!

A lot of the times my patients want to take it easy on the count of their knees or joints being a bit “inflamed,” weak or tight. There are a myriad of reason you may have a knee that feels this way and I would highly suggest that you see a qualified physical therapist before making any sudden decisions regarding that knee.

Before I move on though and in relation to the point above, there is one thing most people forget:

We are meant to move.

Yes. I know it is weird to think a physio is telling you to stress something that is seemingly injured, but once cleared by an MD or DPT we can no longer baby it to the point of total non-weightbearing.

Our joints are stimulated to release an array of chemicals and substances meant to essentially clear out an area of swelling so in most cases, if we weight bear a bit, challenge the joint and don’t move afraid, we see reduction in swelling and improvement in symptoms of tightness and restriction. Weird, right?

With this particular patient, we discovered significant weakness and proprioceptive losses on the right. Along with loading his knee heavy, we have also been testing his ability to maintain soft knee positioning on compliant surfaces such as the BOSU ball here,

Well now if you have been taking a load off of your knee for quite some time and you’re noticing things like it getting smaller or substantially weaker then call or text me now at 305-902-6644 to get evaluated today!
