What’s the Best Way to Mobilize Your Post-surgical Scars?

Recently had a surgery? Maybe you had a total knee replacement, ACL tear or even an eyeball removal (obviously a joke). Well you came to the right place. Today I'm gonna go over a few things that you can do today post-surgically to help mobilize your scars and reduce their appearance and restriction!

In regards to removing the negative impacts of the surgeon’s scalpel, I recommend two techniques:

1️⃣ Creating a great deal of pressure and gliding the fingers over the skin surrounding the scar.

⚠️ Make sure not to rub on any part of the scar that is even a sliver open as you could risk infection!

2️⃣ Placing your fingers on the edges of the scar and stretching the skin in all directions. While doing this your fingers don’t change position on the skin.

This allows for the skin and fascial units to glide over one another as the fingers create deeper pressure than the method mentioned above.

🌟Both of these techniques are effective ways to mobilize skin tissue surrounding a “sticky” or adhered scar. Invoking them early and often (as long as your wound is closed in the areas you are treating) can help aid in range of motion and decreased appearance of these fugly incision marks!
